Old Music

October 3, 2009 by ryanbrooke

SimonandGarfunkel

I’m chilling in my parents basement to the sound of Simon and Garfunkel. Today I went to Wal*Mart and bought The Essential Simon and Garfunkel and The Beatles Revolver.

My expedition into older and older tunes continues.

My own musical sound is changing as well. I’m definitely being influenced by the sounds of James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Johnny Cash and the like.

I’m excited to say that you will get to digest my new sound. I’m currently recording an EPish batch of songs at my neighbor’s studio. I can promise that the quality is much higher than previous recordings.

My good friend Eric Nanz is producing, mixing, and playing on these new songs. Also, I’m recording a more upbeat tune at the JMU studio for my multi-track class.

If you’re around, I’ll be playing this Friday @ The Artful Dodger @ 7:30pm. Hope to see you there.

Dorm Room Photoshoot

May 6, 2009 by ryanbrooke

I was bored today since I didn’t have any studying left to do for finals. My roommate is gone so there is empty space in my room.

The lighting was cool so I shot some new promos. Which one do you like the best?

Keith Urban Sold His CD to Me

April 19, 2009 by ryanbrooke

keith20urban20cd20cover2

I bought Keith Urban’s new CD Defying Gravity last night at Wal-Mart. It is amazingly fresh and catchy.

Read Jeremy Cherry’s take.

Since listening to the CD, I realized that I always feel like I have to be doing something when I am listening to music. I want to start appreciating music for what it is.

I want to take it in. Listening to music is doing something isn’t it?

File-Sharing Website Founders Jailed in Sweden

piratebay

Music Industry bloggers Kings of A&R posted about The Pirate Bay (a file-sharing site) founder’s one year jail sentence and fine in Sweden.

KOAR’s take…

File sharing sites like Pirate Bay diminishes the value of music , undermines investment in music, and do nothing to reward artists and creators.

I totally agree. People need to stop biting the hand that feeds.

Andy Zipf Warms My Heart

Andy Zipf’s latest post about wrapping up his tour really connects with me.

In this age of tweets and status updates, you can find out what most of your friends have going on in their lives with the click of a button…. Don’t get me wrong, I love all the tools and resources out there.  I use them daily.  I just don’t think we are actually connecting.  Not really.

I totally agree. He ends by saying how he is trying to make community by reaching people in person at his shows or elsewhere.

Again I totally agree.

Andy has had a huge influence on the way I act as an independent musician. He even lives in my town!

I hope you’ll check out his music.
